Monday 20 March, 2023. Sydney, Australia. Women around the globe have been fighting for equality and their rights for many years, whether it’s at the workplace or in their communities. But true inclusivity and a sense of belonging cannot be achieved unless equity is embraced by everyone.
At Experteq, we understand the importance of equity, especially in the predominantly male technology and IT industry, where more can be done to challenge the status quo. That’s why, this month, we #EmbraceEquity and honour our women by empowering them and lifting them up.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, members of our team participated in some meaningful programs and events to advance their development and inspire them further to be a part of creating a gender-equal future. We also recently spoke with Karla Day, Chief Information Officer at QBANK, and our Chief People Officer, Juliet Addis, who both shared invaluable advice on how to create a fairer workplace and how to overcome gender barriers to succeed in any industry.
UN Women Australia event – Cracking the Code: Innovation for a gender-equal future
On 3 March 2023, 10 members of the Experteq team attended the International Women’s Day lunch in Sydney hosted by UN Women Australia. Held across five cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Perth – the fundraising event saw leaders and change-makers come together to encourage women to rethink how they approach innovation, while creating new social, economic and cultural codes to achieve gender equality. The event also aimed to inspire women to make a difference in their everyday lives.
With a line-up of inspirational speakers and presentations including ‘me too’ founder Tarana Burke; actor and activist, Alyssa Milano; author and Australian Walkley Award winning journalist Tracey Spicer AM, the event provided an insightful look into how we can crack the code for a gender-equal future.
Women Rising Program
Helping women forge new paths into male-dominated industries has been an uphill task, regardless of industry or geography. They will often encounter challenges such as having a different set of expectations based on their gender, receiving unequal opportunities for growth in their company or industry, facing questions regarding their leadership capabilities and more.
That’s why more must be done to help empower women and elevate their abilities in a personal and professional capacity.
On 8 March 2023, five of our teammates were enrolled into Women Rising – a holistic personal and professional development program that helps women improve their career development, increase their confidence, and transform their mindsets. This is achieved through evidence-based curriculums, along with expert coaching and a supportive community.
With this virtual program, Experteq aims to support our women across the organisation – from marketing to service delivery – so they can gain greater clarity in life and at work. This way, we can help women break down professional barriers, overcome self-doubt and pick up the right tools and skills to communicate with authenticity so they can realise their full potential.
